Chronic Pain

Pain is considered chronic when it lasts for greater than 3 months and usually affects someone's physical and mental well-being. There may have been an initial trauma or mechanism of injury but the continuation of pain is an abnormal pain signal that travels through specific nerve fibers to the brain, despite appropriate tissue healing. Treatment of chronic pain can be layered and complex and often requires a patient and understanding team that can unfold the many systems involved in this cycle.
